Yamn and Alpaca Goodfoot Lounge – Portland, OR February, 17th
Jordan Inglee for Peach Jam Productions

Talk about a rocking Wednesday!

Yamn , a four-piece, high-energy, smooth sonic explosion, masters of the modern day craft of progressive-electro-trance-fusion, made the trek from the Denver, Colorado to come and make us move!

Yamn has been snowballing the Colorado Jam Scene, leveling crowds with their conscious and gnarly jams! Alpaca’s expansive electro-funk disco party kicked the night off!

For those who don’t know of Alpaca, they’ve been building their own brand of get down vibes throughout the Northwest for the last few years, leading the way in the “Jam Band” scene, blowing up venues right and left! The Goodfoot is one of their stomping grounds, and for a Wednesday night, the crowd was amazing!
Yamn’s extensive, AWESOME light rig shed light on the pure musical mastery of both of these bands, as well as helped to keep our butts a movin! Alpaca, will be blowing up the stages all the way up to the Mountain Stomp, so make sure you get out and get a chance to see them!

Also, make damn sure you see Yamn , you won’t regret it!

iPhone vs Motorola Droid
     tech, mypiehole

There are many reviews comparing the iPhone to the newly released Verizon Motorola Droid. Most of them have the same amusing plot. Each exudes a "wow, what a very cool device containing everything that everyone wants except of course the Apple(tm) operating system."

Tada! That lone fact makes the iPhone better. Some magical twist happens and this trendy little toy miraculously comes out on top. Some of the reviewers blatantly avoid mentioning the most amazing features of the Droid and actually award points for "stylish-edges". Ridiculous.

I truly wanted to be one of you iPhonies, I really did. But I just couldn't get over the dropped calls and the internal battery. I need my phone to be a good phone at the very least and carrying a dead cellphone when you need it feels like carrying an empty 5 gallon can all the way back to town. Nope.

Here's the skinny. Motorola has a bone to pick with Apple. Remember whose brains were in Apple computers prior to Intel's. That's right. Motorola. They are motivated to win this. You can bet that Motorola, just like everyone else in the world, sees the promise of the mobile digital device.

It appears that they have entered the fight with a ringer of a fighter which features:

The heavily muscled arms of the most sophisticated portable device ever created: the Droid. It boasts a removeable battery, digital storage, multiple radios, hi-res graphics, a hardware keyboard and it has a simple USB charging system.

It has the agility of the quick and sturdy legs of the best carrier in existence and the biggest network: Verizon.

It runs under the guidance of the most open and promising of all the smartphone operating systems: Android 2.0. Fast development cycles will advance this OS in no time especially considering the company backing it. Google.

These two devices aren't even in the same weight class. When the Android OS gets a few more seasons under its belt no one will be comparing the Motorola Droid to the iPhone any longer.

The iPhone of the future will likely be a relative of the Droid of today.

The MastanMusic Hour
     wise old

By some phenomenon, some act of god, some stroke of luck, some inexplicable twist of the cosmic fabric, Portland, Oregon has focused into a swirling musical vortex not unlike the myriad waterfalls that encircle it. It seems that every nook and crannie contains some kind of art project filled with blind optimism and fleeting dreams. Ironically, somewhat quietly these folks add to the quality of our lives. We are the beneficiaries of the output of those driven by their love of music, art and performance. I for one am thankful.
Jeremy Wilson
So with that being said, here is the first entry for 2007. The MastanMusic Hour, is a totally free podcast produced by Jeremy Wilson, the former leader of Pilot and the Dharma Bums (you may remember them if you are more Oregonian than I am) and Sam Densmore. As of this writing there are 14 timeless episodes available on the MastanMusic website. Each episode is backed by a nice magazine-style entry with info about each band and links to their pro websites or their MySpace pages.

Jeremy and Sam really have a great grasp of the Portland music scene and each episode is loaded with tracks from local artists as well as the tracks from the occasional lucky Indie band whose CD they like.

Tell The Big Mouth Kid About It

bigmouthkid.com

Do you know of a hot new independent act that I should know about? Even if the act isn't from Portland, they might come through the northwest somewhere and wham, there's a chance to see 'em. Who knows?

bigmouthkid.com Especially if they give me and others a way to listen to them such as an mp3 of a whole song, I will listen to it and it may wind up on my stream (hint - only if it is a good listenable mp3 of an entire song).
I might post a little write-up and pointers to your websites and pictures, if I like it enough. Just a little more help getting your word out.

Maybe a band is already coming through town, I might tell people about it on my calendar too. I send my calendar to the local papers to help get the gigs I am interested in listed.

Doesn't have to be music either. Festivals, parties, any fun I might like, all hints are welcome and considered.

I'm not really an open mic, but I am a big mouth kid. A big mouth that wants to assist artistic creativity and indepen-dance.

Email me your links, pointers, venue articles, hints, rumors, band articles, press releases, cd release parties, festival announcements and other noteables.

Cheap Introductory Advertising Prices
ads are cheap on bigmouthkid.com.
For a short time, the Big Mouth Kid is offering an "early adopter" price on our thumbnail ads.

Only $5 per month* for each thumbnail ad.

Unlike other ad systems for online magazines, we don't charge by the click for our ads or have view frequency options. Our ads our chosen randomly from a pool and refreshed with nearly every click of the user. Everyone is equal and limited to a 128 x 128 thumbnail**.
Be one of the original advertisers featured on this site and enjoy higher view frequency as we launch our online magazine effort!

You can provide a digital image for the thumbnail ad or we can design one for you.

We'll link this thumbnail through a click counter directly to your website.

For just $25 extra we'll build and add a permanent sweet little directory-style entry to the Big Mouth Kid website. It'll come complete with images, a review and links to your website.

Interested contact thumbads@bigmouthkid.com.

*a yearly option of $50 makes the ad even cheaper
**obviously, you could "clone" the ad, y'know buy two of the same thumbnail, to increase its frequency.
